RESEARCH:

Dilan Shah ’17 conducted undergraduate research for four years at Austin College. Focusing on cancer therapy, he experienced all aspects of research, from concept to experiment design, funding, and presentation.

JANTERM:

Traveling to the Himalayas to study culture, animals, and plants, students in the “Science and Culture of the Natural World” Janterm course also worked alongside Nepalese villagers to build a sturdy school house there.

Karisma Sheth ’17 is shaking things up with a better clothes hanger design. Begun in Austin College’s Product Lab, her work has gained attention for product research, pitch, teamwork, and is now provisional patent pending.

Narendra Balkaran ’18 co-founded OmniBoost by way of Austin College Product Lab. His innovative design passively amplifies audio from any smartphone without using cords. OmniBoost is in the application stage for a patent.

At Austin College we offer JanTerm, a month-long academic adventure between traditional semesters where students can study abroad, gain real world experience, or take a course on campus outside their comfort zone. Two-thirds of recent graduates had a least one international study experience.

Ron Kirk '76

Ron Kirk '76 served as mayor of Dallas and as a member of President Obama’s Cabinet as U.S. Trade Representative. He now is Senior of Counsel in the law firm Gibson Dunn.

Dr. Han Pham Hulen '98

Dr. Han Pham Hulen '98 specializes in wound care and hyperbaric medicine in her private practice in Dallas. She co-chairs Save a Limb Save a Life to prevent diabetic limb amputations.

Michael Sorrells '65

Retired Highland Park High School swim coach Michael Sorrells '65 has trained more than 40 Texas state champions and five U.S. Olympians. He is a member of the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame.

President and CEO of Downtown Dallas, Inc., Kourtney Penn Garrett '00 is working to develop a downtown atmosphere where citizens and visitors can find community.

Larry Fedora '85

Coach Larry Fedora '85 of the North Carolina Tar Heels not only played football for Austin College as a student, but also began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Austin College. Go ‘Roos!

Donald Gibson, M.D. '75

Dr. Donald Gibson '75 is a cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon in Houston, Texas, who studied under heart surgery pioneer Dr. Michael DeBakey. Gibson also served as Chief Medical Officer at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Hospital.
